Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion are among four Premier League clubs in the chase for playmaker Nick Powell of League One pace-setters Wigan Athletic, according to the BBC's Ian Dennis.

Top flight strugglers Bournemouth and Swansea City are also in the race for Powell's signature, and the Daily Mail reported earlier today that the fee for Powell could be around £3m.

Wigan moved into the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday with a hugely impressive 2-0 home win over Premier League West Ham and are top of the third tier, thanks in no small part to the form of former Manchester United playmaker Powell.

That has clearly caught the eye of his various admirers, and Deadline Day could see a bidding war over the talented midfielder who has 11 goals and three assists from 28 appearances in all competitions to his name for the Latics this season.

The Verdict

Losing Powell, and not getting him back in on loan until the end of the season, would be a hammer blow to Wigan's promotion chances.

£3m is a lot of money for a team in the third tier and that could help them reinvest if they do get back up, as it looks like they are set to, however.
