Luton Town manager Nathan Jones has claimed there could be outrage among some Championship clubs about recent changes to Sheffield Wednesday's points deduction.

Having been deducted 12 points at the start of this season due to a breach of EFL financial regulations, it was announced earlier this week that that deduction had been reduced to six points on appeal.

That is something that it seems Jones is far from happy with, and he appears to believe that he is not the only one who will feel that way.

Speaking about that reduction to the Owls' punishment, Jones told Luton Today: “I’ve got real good thoughts on that, not that I’d actually say something in the press.

“All we can say is the league weren’t happy with the 12 that they got, so to halve it to six, it will be interesting to see what the league say."

Revealing his feelings about the situation, and the difference in approach he believes has been taken by Wednesday in comparison to other clubs, Jones added: “Why are there rules in place? If people break the rules and they are seen to break the rules - as otherwise it won’t mean anything.

“Clubs like us that do things right, we can’t go out and spend above what we think otherwise people don’t get paid.

“So for someone to do that, and whatever they’ve done, I have real strong thoughts on that, but it’s very difficult for me to say anything."

Indeed, it seems Jones is not expecting this news to go down well amongst Championship clubs, and revealing how he expects them to respond to this, the Luton boss claimed: “It will be interesting to see what happens as I would imagine there will be outrage from some clubs, but hopefully what we’ve got to make sure it doesn't affect us in any way, shape or form.

“We can’t affect what Sheffield Wednesday do, but in a game where we look for fair play, we look to adhere to the rules and now they've brought a salary cap in, it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming days.” Following the changes to their points deduction, Wednesday remain bottom of the Championship table, but with five points to their name, meaning they are now just three from safety. For their part, Jones and Luton are currently ninth in the table, with 16 points from their ten league games so far. The Verdict You can certainly understand why Jones is frustrated by this. Given the feelings he clearly has about the actions taken by Wednesday, it is no surprise that he appears frustrated by this boost for the Owls. Indeed, you feel there will be plenty of other clubs disappointed by this, not least due to the fact it now makes the battle to avoid relegation this season even tighter. That being said, given this decision has been made through an appeal, it is hard to see it changing again, meaning it may simply be one that clubs across the division are going to have to deal with for the rest of the campaign.
