Luton Town face Championship competition for £2 million-rated Barnsley forward Carlton Morris, according to the Yorkshire Post's Leon Wobschall.

The Tykes were relegated to League One last season but it appears Morris will be offered the chance to play second tier football in 2022/23.

Reports emerged yesterday indicating that Luton were set to sign the 26-year-old in a deal worth around £2 million.

However, Wobschall has since claimed that the Hatters face competition from another Championship club with the situation said to be "ongoing".

Morris joined Barnsley from Norwich City in January 2021 and has gone on to score 14 goals in 47 games for the Tykes, including seven goals and three assists in 28 appearances last term.

The forward would be Luton's seventh signing of the summer as Nathan Jones looks to build on his side's top six finish in 2021/22 – with striker Cauley Woodrow having already joined from the Tykes in the current window.

He'd be the eighth player to leave Oakwell this summer as the Yorkshire club adapt to life in the third tier.

The Verdict

It originally seemed as though Luton were set to land Morris in a £2m deal but it appears the deal is not wrapped up just yet.

The interest from another Championship club is undoubtedly bad news for the Hatters but good for Barnsley, who may be able to drive up his price as a result.

He's the sort of physical forward that could thrive under Jones at Kenilworth Road while the Tykes are in line to make an impressive profit on the 26-year-old.

Reports in January 2021 indicated they paid just £300,000 for the forward, who is now said to be set to move for a fee in the region of £2m.
