Plymouth Argyle had a wretched start to the 2018/19 season, plummeting into the drop zone and looking like solid candidates for a spell in League Two.

They're still struggling, 23rd in the table, but they're no longer adrift of the chasing pack. Six points separates the bottom nine sides, meaning with lots of games to play there's time to turn things around.

The best way to do that is the January transfer window, a time when much can be altered in terms of personnel which impacts performances on the pitch.

Derek Adams will be looking at bringing in a couple of new faces at least, with one or two positions far more pressing than others.

We look at the three-point plan that could give the Pilgrims a more than fighting chance of getting out of the bottom four by the time the season draws to a close.

The pressing need in terms of recruitment has to be at right back.

Tafari Moore is playing their at present, but his performances have been less than convincing and a more experienced head would surely be welcomed.

The 3-0 win against Oxford was their first clean sheet in 10 League One games stretching back to October. That has to be addressed.

At the beginning of the season, the central midfield looked to be awash with talent, but since Conor Grant and Yann Songo'o have dropped much deeper, they do look a little short on options.

Whether it is as cover, or someone coming in with steel and experience, they do need a recruit in this department.

Freddie Ladapo is bound to attract some interest and Derek Adams must hold on to him.

He's got 12 goals in 30 appearances, which isn't bad for a side 23rd in the division. He'll have teams looking at him, but a successful window closes with him still wearing the green of Plymouth.
