West Brom finished in a comfortable 14th place in the Premier League in Tony Pulis’ first full season in charge.

Their decent end to the previous season was in part to the solid performances by James Chester, who arrived from Hull City.

Ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, however, would start off with a decision that would not please a large number of the Baggies’ supporters.

Just a day before their season opener in the Premier League to Crystal Palace, it was confirmed Chester was leaving the club, completing a permanent deal to Aston Villa.

After a successful debut campaign at the Hawthorns, there were plenty of supporters who were not best pleased with the decision made by Pulis.

Despite the fans’ backlash, the West Brom manager would have the last laugh.

The club banked the money back they had spent on the Wales international, and the club would go on to have a successful season on the pitch.

West Brom would finish 10th in the division while the defender’s new club were finishing in the bottom half of the Championship table.

It was a move that the fans were not pleased with and disappointed that the defender, who has since gone on to be an influential figure at Villa was allowed to leave.

But it would end bittersweet with the bad news of his departure, but the team would ultimately benefit with a top-half Premier League finish.
