After Birmingham City parted company with manager Garry Monk in June, the club decided to appoint Pep Clotet as caretaker manager.

It was certainly a decision that raised a few eyebrows amongst Football League fans and it's fair to say that the decision didn't go down too well with supporters at St Andrew's.

After Monk left the club, Birmingham announced that they had decided to appoint Clotet as caretaker head coach and stated that they were not actively seeking a permanent manager.

Clotet was assistant to Monk at Swansea City, Leeds United and Birmingham. The Spaniard also had a brief spell as Oxford United manager, but he was sacked after just seven months in charge at the Kassam Stadium.

His appointment caused a lot of Blues fans to question the board's decision to get rid of an experienced manager in Monk and replace him with Clotet - someone with no experience as a manager in the Championship.

At the time of the announcement, plenty of Birmingham fans were quick to express their anger, confusion and disappointment at the board's decision on social media.

However, things have turned out much better than many Birmingham fans were expecting. Clotet's style of football has generally pleased fans and he seems to have adapted very well to the challenges that come with managing a team in the Championship.

The Spaniard was able to sign some talented players in the transfer window, including the likes of defensive midfielder Ivan Sunjic, attacking midfielder Fran Villalba and striker Alvaro Gimenez.

He seems to have been able to get the best out of the players so far and he's also shown that he's prepared to give young players like Jude Bellingham a chance in the team.

He's won five, drawn one and lost six of his twelve matches in charge of Birmingham and despite losing three of their last four games, the Blues are currently 12th in the Championship table, only four points outside the play-offs.

It's early days yet and quite a few other teams have got off to a good start, but Clotet seems to have won many of the Birmingham fans over, including those who initially questioned his appointment.
