Greg Halford has lived a nomadic life, taking in 12 different clubs in 13 spells both on loan and permanently.

Most recently, the 34-year old spent time with Neil Warnock's Cardiff, on the edge of their first team as they secured a place in the Premier League. He was released at the end of the season and recently turned up at West Brom, where he appeared for their Under 23 side against Reading.

The report in the Express and Star suggests he was initially training with them to keep fit, but could be offered a short-term deal after impressing Darren Moore.

With the versatility to play at the back or in midfielder as well as plenty of Championship experience, he could be an astute signing. On the other hand, West Brom have been burned with aging full backs already this season, Tyrone Mears not exactly impressing during his Hawthorns tenure.

The opinion is split between our Football League experts as to whether this is a good move or not, as you can read below.

Alfie Burns

If Moore wants some squad depth then it isn’t a bad option at all.

Halford has played in some successful sides and proved to be useful in a number of positions.

This is the type of situation that the Baggies can’t really lose from.

Jacob Potter

It would be a ridiculous signing.

There was a reason as to why Halford was released by Cardiff at the end of last season, and he wouldn't get anywhere near the starting XI for West Brom.

Yes, he may be a versatile option to have, but there are far better options out there.

George Harbey

I’m really not sure about this one.

Halford is a very experienced player but has been far from his best over the last couple of years, and there are certainly better options out there.

James Tavernier would be a much better addition.

Louie Chandler

It could be a clever move.

Sure, Halford is not too attractive a prospect as far as a first choice centre-back would go, but Moore has clearly identified a need for more defensive depth.

As a free agent, he should definitely go for it.
