Leeds United’s pursuit of Southampton striker Che Adams is continuing to dominate the headlines as we approach the midway stage of the January transfer window.
It’s previously been revealed by Saints boss () that he is keen to retain the services of Adams for the remainder of the season, as he sees the striker as a strong option to challenge the likes of Danny Ings for their starting spot.
But The Athletic’s Phil Hay has revealed that Leeds United have set a deadline for a decision to be made on Adams’ future, whether that be at Southampton or with the Whites.
As for transfers at Leeds United, club are waiting for an answer from Southampton on Che Adams. There’s a deadline on this and other strikers are being targeted in the background. Italian interest in Poveda but Leeds still expect to meet with him later this week. @TheAthleticUK

The reliable journalist also stated that Leeds are looking into alternative striking options this month in case a deal for Adams fails to materialise.
Plenty of the Elland Road faithful took to social media to react to a deadline being set for a decision on Adams’ future.

Sounds good to me. Adams is clearly Bielsa’s top target by a mile, I for one prefer we take reasonable time trying to get him to ER rather than panic and settle for a weaker player or worse fit. There needs to be a deadline but for me it can be another week no problem. #lufc

The longer this drags on, the more I think the club messed up by refusing to pay Roofe the same as Bamford.

These need to happen by the weekend. If @LUFC knew Eddie had itchy feet they should have had a plan b all along

End of Jan: None of the targets were available.
End of Jan: Ryan Edmonson goes out on loan to get 1st team experience.
Feb 1st: Bamford injured, out for the season.

Given that transfers take 2 days to complete, unless a fee is agreed with The Saints by Wednesday, he won't be available for the QPR game. I'm not holding my breath.

Is the deadline whenever they feel like it?

Can't believe we didn't have someone lined up before Eddie left as it was obvious he would be going https://t.co/6I9HfVzM1X recognised striker at a club looking to get promoted is ridiculous.

The fact that Southampton don't seem to have shut down the revised offer immediately has to give some hope surely. If it is rejected we need to move on.
