Ipswich Town have reportedly agreed a three-year deal with Tranmere Rovers forward James Norwood, as Paul Lambert looks to rebuild his squad ahead of the new season.

The East Anglian Daily Times claim that the Tractor Boys have agreed a deal to sign the prolific striker, who has endured a quite simply remarkable season in front of goal.

The 28-year-old netted 32 times in a total of 53 appearances for Tranmere this term, and played a massive part in their promotion from League Two via the play-off final against Newport.

And, after somewhat unsurprisingly winning the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Season award, it looks as though Micky Mellon is set to lose his star-man, with Paul Lambert's side closing in on a deal...

Here, we discuss how good a signing this would be for Ipswich...

George Harbey

"This would be a fantastic addition for Ipswich, and has potential to be one of the signings of the season.

"Signing on a free transfer is a ridiculous piece of business, considering how many goals he has scored this season and how important he has been for Tranmere.

"Ipswich need a pacey, strong striker up top, and Norwood certainly fits the bill."

Jacob Potter

"A great signing.

"Norwood is a proven goalscorer in the lower league and I firmly believe that we will get them out of League One.

"He’s exactly the type of player they need and Ipswich will be delighted to get their number one target."

Toby Wilding

"This is a great signing for Ipswich.

"Norwood is one of those attackers who just seems to have that scoring instinct whatever division he is in, and I expect to do well on his step up to League One.

"Having struggled for goals all season, this is exactly the sort of signing Ipswich need to make if they are to have any hope of making an immediate return to the Championship next season."
