Many Derby County supporters have been suggesting that Martyn Waghorn does not have the attributes they need to be leading the line up front, following the Rams’ 3-2 loss at Luton Town.

Waghorn has found himself predominantly being used in the wide positions by Phillip Cocu when he has been selected to start this season, and the forward has managed to chip in with a respectable tally of eight goals in 29 Championship appearances.

However, during the last few league matches Cocu has decided to start the 30-year-old up front ahead of the likes of Chris Martin and Jack Marriott, with the Dutchman looking to find someone who can be relied upon up front to score regularly in the final third.

Against Luton, though, Waghorn struggled to really make an impact up front for the Rams and did not manage to hold the ball up as well as Derby needed him to at times, which suggests that he did not offer the sort of physical presence up front that might have been needed to calm the game down for Cocu’s side in the second half.

That has left some Derby fans questioning whether the forward should be starting as the centre forward ahead of both Martin and Marriott, who both offer more a natural outlet up front for the Rams but have also found life challenging in front of goal in recent weeks.

Here then, we take a look at what Derby fans have been saying about Waghorn’s performance at Luton on social media…
