Sheffield Wednesday striker, Lucas Joao is reportedly set to hand in an official transfer request according to The Sun's Justin Allen.

The Portuguese forward made 31 league appearances for the Owls last season, but struggled for starts in their league campaign, starting just 18 times as they finished 12th in the Championship.

The report claims that Sheffield Wednesday have already rejected a bid from an unknown club to sign Joao, and aren't willing to accept any offers unless their £8m valuation of him is matched.

Joao first moved to Hillsborough back in 2015, and has gone on to make 83 appearances in total for the club, scoring 18 goals in his three seasons in Sheffield.

It's been a hugely frustrating month for Owls supporters, who have seen Steve Bruce move to Newcastle on Wednesday, in a move that hasn't gone down well at all.

But is Joao worth the reported £8m fee that Sheffield Wednesday are asking for him?

We discuss....

George Brooks:

"Joao has been an important player for Sheffield Wednesday over the past few seasons and he scored ten Championship goals for the Owls last season.

"He's a got a good amount of experience in the Championship and would be a decent signing for a lot of teams in the division.

"The striker has two years remaining on his contract at Hillsborough, so Wednesday are in a strong position when it comes to negotiations with rival clubs and they might be able to hold out for a decent fee for him.

"I'm not sure Wednesday will be able to get the £8million they are looking for though and the two Championship clubs who have already made offers for him seem to be put off by this price tag.

"He hasn't scored more than ten goals in a single season and a lot of his appearances for Wednesday are from the bench.

"It will be interesting to see how much clubs are prepared to pay for him this summer, but I personally don't think he is worth £8million."

Kealan Hughes:

"It is a ridiculous asking price considering his importance to the team and the fact he has started just 66 of his 126 Wednesday appearances.

"He has been a good impact player however and The Owls clearly feel they would be missing something from their squad if he was to leave.

"Joao combines aerial presence with good physicality in terms of strength and pace, meaning there aren't many strikers like him who the club would be able to bring in as his replacement.

"He is also 25, so still has the potential to develop further and if he can begin starting games regularly for his next side then he could become quite prolific, and £8m wouldn't seem like too high of a fee."

Gary Hutchinson:

“Absolutely not, no. That’s like me sticking a big price tag on my house, four times the value, just so nobody buys it.

“I’ll boldly state right now that nobody at all will pay that sort of money for Lucas Joao. Absolutely nobody.

“He’s been average for them; not outstanding but not terrible. I wouldn’t have picked him out as a key player last season, nor the season before that.

“He’s had injury worries, he’s inconsistent and now he’s displaying something of an attitude issue as well. If my club signed him for £8m I’d say they had spent £6m too much at the very least.”
