Former Portsmouth defender Ricardo Rocha has issued an amusing response to David Norris' tweet about his famous strike during Portsmouth's 2-2 draw with Southampton in 2012.

The two sides are preparing to meet in the Carabao Cup third round tonight for the first time since that match at St Mary's Stadium in 2012, where Norris scored a last-minute volley to rescue a point for Pompey.

The south-coast rivals have been in different divisions since this meeting in the 2011/12 Championship season, with Portsmouth currently in League One while Southampton are in the Premier League.

This means Norris' strike was the last goal scored in a match between these bitter rivals, and the midfielder tweeted a video of the famous goal ahead of tonight's instalment of the Hampshire derby.

Rocha, who played for Portsmouth between 2010 and 2013, was also on the pitch that day and he subsequently tweeted Norris to remind the midfielder that he was responsible for pumping the ball into the box seconds before the goal.

The 40-year-old praised Norris' well-timed volley but he also pointed out that his ball into the box was "crucial", which he followed up with a series of laughing emojis.

The Verdict

It would have been difficult to believe at the time that this 2012 clash between the two sides would be the last time they would meet for over seven years, but the trajectories of the clubs has dictated it to be the case.

Rocha's message will surely bring a smile to the faces of Portsmouth fans as they remember this famous goal, and they will need to hope for another moment of magic like this tonight.

Southampton are undoubtably favourites ahead of the clash given they are so much higher than Portsmouth in the footballing pyramid, but it could be a difficult match for them in a difficult Fratton Park atmosphere.

I'm expecting it to be a tight affair throughout and Portsmouth may even nick a goal, but I think Southampton will ultimately have too much for them.
