Swansea City's latest signing Rhian Brewster has suggested former Liverpool teammate Yan Dhanda played a key role in convincing the striker to join the South Wales outfit on loan.

There were a number of Championship clubs keen on signing the Reds frontman including the Leeds United an Bristol City - according to WalesOnline - but Swansea yesterday confirmed they had sealed a loan deal for Brewster.

The 19-year-old is now set to link up with the Swansea squad this week ahead of their crucial South Wales derby clash on Sunday, with Brewster now in with a chance of featuring against Cardiff in the Welsh capital.

It is thought that Swansea boss Steve Cooper played a key role in luring Brewster to the club given the pair had previously worked together in the England youth set-up, but it has now emerged that Dhanda also played his part.

Speaking to Swans TV, Brewster confirmed that Dhanda urged him to join the South Wales outfit, while the forward also declared that his former Liverpool teammate is a "great player to play with".

“Yan’s a great guy; I’ve known him since I first joined Liverpool when I was 14,” said Brewster.

“He just kept telling me to come to Swansea! We played together at Liverpool and he’s a great player to play with. Hopefully, we can play here together as well."

The Verdict

There can be no doubt that Swansea have sealed a major coup in bringing Brewster to South Wales, and it appears it was a real team effort in convincing the striker that the Liberty Stadium side is the best team for him moving forward.

Swansea would have been desperate to sign a new striker following Bournemouth's decision to recall Sam Surridge, so this means Brewster will be guaranteed plenty of game time at the club, but it seems there were also other factors in the move.

Dhanda has struggled to nail down a place in the Swansea side this term despite showing plenty of glimpses of his quality, but it will be interesting to see whether Brewster's move to the club now improves the midfielder's game time.
