Sky Bet League Two side Notts County have been put out of the FA Cup by non-league side Salford City, deservedly losing 2-0 to the Northern Premier League side in the first round.

Salford City matched their League Two opponents, and they did not look like a side that were 59 places below them in the Football pyramid.

Danny Webber put Salford ahead 20 seconds after the second half whistle blew after some good wing play by James Poole.

Jordon Hulme almost doubled their lead in the 57th minute after he cut inside and smashed the ball into the top right corner, which cannoned off the cross bar.

The crucial moment in the second half saw Salford centre back Steve Howson brilliantly deny County an equaliser in the 67th minute after a clearance was charged down by Adam Campbell. The ball ricocheted towards the goal line, only for Howson to recover and sensationally sweep the ball off the line.

Salford's persistence paid off though after substitute Richie Allen made it 2-0 with a fantastic solo goal.

After turning four defenders at once with a wonderful piece of trickery, the second half substitute slid the ball into the bottom left corner. Allen was only on the pitch for four minutes and his goal sent Moor Lane into raptures.

It was a sensational goal to seal a sensational triumph for the seventh tier side.

Notts County put pressure on the semi professionals inside the last ten minutes, but were unable to break the Salford defence.

They were expected to beat the Manchester side comfortably, but County looked second best throughout the 90 minutes.

For a side that only train twice a week, Salford looked fitter than County and passed the ball far better than the Nottingham side.
