New Wolves striker Rafa Mir has confirmed that Real Madrid made bids for him when he was at Valencia before he decided to join Nuno Santo's side, according to the Express and Star.

The 20-year-old joined the Championship table toppers in a deal worth around £1.5m at the start of the January window and has revealed that there was concrete interest from the La Liga and Champions League holders beforehand.

Santo gave Mir his debut when the pair were at Valencia together and he gave the Spanish striker his bow at Molineux on Saturday in a 0-0 draw with Premier League basement club Swansea City.

He said: "Valencia rejected three or four offers from Real Madrid for me. However, they agreed to the first from Wolves in December. Valencia did not want me to go to Madrid."

The Verdict

It is quite some coup for Wolves that they can shop for players on Real Madrid's radar and use their pulling power to get them in.

Some of that is to do with Valencia's unwillingness to sell to bitter rivals Madrid but it still underlines that Wolves are in a different league in terms of recruitment right now - and they should be playing in a new league next season.
