Jose Gomes is seemingly making early movements in this transfer window, as it has emerged that he has transfer listed five first-team players this week as he looks to trim the current playing squad.

The Reading Chronicle revealed, that David Meyler, Marc McNulty, Vito Mannone, Paul McShane and David Edwards have all been transfer listed by the newly appointed Reading boss.

A source close to the Chronicle has also said that the players listed aren't training with the first-team and haven't even been allowed to eat with their fellow first-team team-mates.

All five players were left out of the matchday squad in Reading's FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, and it will come as no surprise to see these players being transfer listed.

Dave Edwards has been recently linked with a move to former side, Shrewsbury Town in this transfer window, but it remains to be seen as to whether the midfielder will be the subject of a formal bid from the League One side.

Paul McShane is Reading's captain, but with only six months left on his current deal, it's hardly surprising to see the out-of-form defender being transfer listed.

But McNulty, Meyler and Mannone all have 18 months left on their current deals with the club, and they could attract interest in the near future.

In particular, McNulty could be attracting interest from his former side, Coventry as they look for back-to-back promotions to the Championship this season.

Reading will be hoping that any new signings can make a positive impact for the remainder of the season, with the Royals currently winless in 11 games in all competitions.

This recent slump in form has seen Gomes' side slip into the relegation zone which will be hugely concerning for everyone associated with the club.

The Verdict:

It's no surprise to see these players heading for the exit door.

All of the players that have been listed have been in poor form this season, and they wouldn't have suited the style of football that Gomes is trying to implicate with Reading this season.

The Royals will surely be hoping to get as much money for the players this month, so that they can use those funds to reinvest in the squad that will be desperate to stay in the Championship.
