October offered us plenty to discuss in the Sky Bet Championship as the 24 clubs had a hectic period of games to get on with after the international break.

During the month we saw the likes of Wolves and Sheffield United continue their respective title challenges - alongside the likes of Cardiff City. Then, lower down the league, we had the likes of Brentford continuing their climb up the standings and Bolton Wanderers beginning to find their feet in the second tier.

Looking at the points tallies now, it really does look closer than ever as we head into another international break and it's certainly going to be competitive once things resume later in November. In the meantime, though, it’s time to take a look at the six Championship stars that have been nominated for the Bristol Street Motors PFA Fans’ Player of the Month Award…

Sammy Ameobi

The Trotters picked themselves up off of the deck in October and rallied with Sammy Ameobi proving to be the leader of the charge.

Phil Parkinson's men racked up some important results including a big 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday as they reeled in the sides above them.

They'll be feeling confident now and Ameobi's three goals in October are a big reason behind that.

Bruno Ecuele Manga

Manga has been solid at the back for Cardiff City this season and that was underlined once again in the month just gone.

The Bluebirds continued their promotion challenge with wins over the likes of Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town whilst the defender’s individual stats from the month make for impressive reading.

He was in the top five players for tackles and interceptions for October (both 14) as he and his team-mates chalked up two more clean sheets and you feel as though if they are to keep their challenge up Manga will be key.

Leo Bonatini

Bonatini really is one of the best strikers in the league at the moment and it is small wonder Wolves are top of the Championship right now.

The striker took his tally of goals to nine in the month of October – something he then added to on Friday night against Fulham – with him netting five strikes.

Those goals meant that he was joint top-scorer for the month with Sunderland's Lewis Grabban and you have to wonder just who is going to beat him to the Golden Boot.

Diogo Jota

Alongside Bonatini has been Diogo Jota, with the pair going a long way in helping Wolves have such a potent attack.

The diminutive attacker has gold-dust in his boots and once again shined in October with some dazzling displays and all round brilliance.

He grabbed both a goal and an assist as well as making nine key passes last month, whilst he also recorded 14 successful dribbles, being bettered by only two other players in the league.

Lewis Grabban

Sunderland are struggling at the moment but striker Lewis Grabban didn't individually as he hit five goals during the month of October.

Those strikes meant he finished alongside Leo Bonatini as top scorer in October and, with that in mind, Sunderland fans should feel as though they can get out of the scrap they are currently in.

Furthermore, it only took nine shots for Grabban to hit his five goals and so if his team can lay on more opportunities, he should hit the net more often than he already has.

Massimo Luongo

QPR had a pretty decent month in October with them finishing very strongly as they beat promotion hopefuls Sheffield United and Wolves at Loftus Road.

Those performances really highlighted what the Rs can do when they are firing on all cylinders and Massimo Luongo was a key member of the side throughout the month.

He brought plenty of craft and work-rate into the London club’s line-up with him grabbing an assist and six key passes whilst the 18 tackles he made topped anything else that was seen in the Championship last month.

Those are the six nominees! Be sure to vote for your winner before 8am this Wednesday!
