It's been another frustrating season for Newcastle United fans, with their side battling for Premier League survival once again.

The Magpies have been far from convincing under Steve Bruce, despite some of the talent that he has available to him.

A fair bit of money has been spent on this Newcastle squad and with that in mind, we've compiled a list of their top 10 biggest earners, according to Salary Sport.

The young defender has proven something of a divisive figure since joining from Norwich City in the summer.

There's no doubt the 23-year-old a talented left-back but there seem to have been some growing pains so far.

The Argentine centre-back is missing due to injury at the moment but has proven a smart bit of business since joining in 2018.

The fact he was handed a new deal last March is evidence of how much the club rate him.

Another summer arrival, Hendrick swapped Turf Moor for St James' Park back in August and has brought energy to the Newcastle midfield.

His quality in the final third has been questionable at times but so far he's proven a pretty solid signing.

The Newcastle captain features at number seven on this list, having penned a six-year deal with the club in 2018.

He's certainly proven worth the money since then and has been arguably their most consistent player over the past few years.

The Scottish winger is yet to really reach his best for Newcastle, having tormented Premier League defences during his time at Bournemouth.

Given the demand there seemed to be for him last summer, it seems the Magpies had to hand him a fairly big contract.

Shelvey is an entertainer – whether it's pulling the strings from midfield, playing ridiculous passes, hammering in long-range strikes, or launching into massive challenges.

He's got the ability to create something out of nothing and while supporters may feel a little more stability would be better, it's no surprise to see him in the top five.

When he's on song, the Paraguayan can be a force to be reckoned with but Newcastle will likely feel they haven't seen that side of him enough.

Almiron hasn't been consistent enough for them yet but given his clear talent, it's understandable that he's high on this list.

The 28-year-old striker looked an inspired summer signing for the Magpies and it didn't take him long to start hammering in the goals.

His injury has been a massive blow for the North East club so far, they'll want him back fit as soon as possible.

Goalscorers so often demand the biggest contracts and that certainly seems to be the case at Newcastle, with Joelinton near the top of our list.

Injuries have hampered the Brazilian's time with the North East club so far but he's yet to really convince that he's worth the big money they paid for him.

He's only 23 though, so his time may yet still come.

It's hard to disagree with this man being top of the list.

The tricky winger has dazzled since arriving at St James' Park and been one of the clear bright spots in an otherwise frustrating campaign for Newcastle.
