Jodi Jones' early season form for Coventry City was a delight last time out, clearly pushing Mark Robins side on to a promotion challenge.

His finest hour came in a November clash with Lincoln City, a rampaging display blew away their promotion rivals at Sincil Bank, with the 2-1 victory down as much to the brilliance of the 20-year old as anyone.

Less than a week later, his season was over in the cruellest manner, an ACL injury in a 1-1 draw with Stevenage. Arguably, Coventry lost momentum and ended up staggering into the top seven rather than triumphantly marching in. However they got there, it matters little, they earned promotion to League One at Wembley at the end of May.

News has broken today that Jones is set for a mid-September return and, when he does come back into the fold, he will be like a new signing. When he first joined the injury list, the Sky Blues were just a couple of months into their League Two campaign. When he gets back to training, they'll be an established League One side again.

That will suit Jones just fine, with the players undoubted ability far better suited to the higher level of football. His pace and poise are great assets, but his creativity and eye for the unpredictable make his a player fans love to watch in action. After a ten-month injury lay-off, they might have forgotten exactly what he brings to the party.

He wasn't the only Coventry player to endure injury hell last season, Tony Andreu suffered the same set back as early as September against Port Vale, with the loss of both players highly detrimental to Coventry's promotion push, The fact they made it over the line was remarkable, given that two key players spent the entire season watching from the stands on crutches.

Andreu, a summer signing from Norwich, had regular Scottish Championship football under his belt and was meant to add to Jones' creative spark from the centre of the park. Losing both left Mark Robins in the dark for a short while, but his side recovered sufficiently to finish sixth.

With both players poised for a return, they'll be raring to prove a point and as hungry as any new signing to prove their worth to the squad. When they finally take to the field it will be like two new players pulling on the Sky Blue for the first time and that could give Coventry an additional edge in their push for a top six finish.
