Despite signing him in January, Leeds United fans only got their first chance to see striker Tyler Roberts turn out for the club in Sunday's friendly against Southend

The 19-year-old signed from West Brom in the winter window but picked up a shin injury soon after which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.

But during Leeds' friendly against the Shrimpers he played 28 minutes, coming on as a second-half substitute.

And, the striker was delighted to finally turn out for his new club.

"It was a special occasion," Roberts told LUTV after the game.

"Coming in and not being able to play has been hard for me. To get out on the pitch, in front of the fans who have travelled such a long way was a great feeling."

The match finished in a 1-1 draw with Luke Ayling scoring Leeds' only goal of the game.

Roberts may be in store for more game time than expected this season if the Whites' transfer business continues in the same way it has been.

Since becoming manager Marcelo Bielsa has only managed to bring in two new faces in the form of Chelsea loanees Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman.

A striker is still high on the list of priorities at Elland Road, but with deals for Abel Hernandez and Matej Vydra both falling through Roberts could find himself high up in the pecking order.

The Verdict

It will be interesting to see how Roberts progresses during the remainder of pre-season and whether he can stake a claim to a spot in the squad.

With Leeds' striking problems in the transfer window showing no sign of ending Roberts may well be called upon more frequently and it will be interesting to see if he can make the step up.
