Birmingham City bowed out of the FA Cup on Tuesday night, after an extra time masterclass from Premier League Huddersfield.

The Blues held their top flight rivals over the course of 180 minutes, forcing the tie in an additional 30 minutes, before three goals from the Terriers ensured their passage through to the fifth round, where they will take on Manchester United.

Che Adams had given the home side a lead early in the second half, but a Marc Roberts own goal forced the game into extra time, where the Blues subsequently were outclassed by David Wagner’s side.

Defender Carl Jenkinson gave a good account of himself as he continues his return from shoulder surgery, with the Arsenal loanee ‘feeling sharp’ ahead of the huge second city derby against Aston Villa at the weekend.

“I’m feeling good and building on it every game, I’m getting my sharpness back,” he told the club’s official site.

“When I signed for Birmingham in the summer the Villa fixtures were the first ones I looked for. That’s why you want to be a footballer, is to play in those sort of games.”

The Verdict

Birmingham may have escaped the bottom three for now, but Steve Cotterill’s side remain firmly in the relegation scrap with just sixteen games remaining.

Taking on promotion chasing rivals Aston Villa will be no easy feat, and the Blues will have to be at their best if they are to put an end to Steve Bruce’s side’s excellent run of form.

Jenkinson has been a huge loss since his injury and his return will seriously boost the squad, and his confidence ahead of the game is certain to excite Blues fans ahead of the epic clash expected at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.
