Blackburn Rovers are thoroughly enjoying their return to Championship football after winning promotion from League One last season. 

Things got even better for them on Thursday when captain Charlie Mulgrew signed a two-and-a-half-year contract extension at Ewood Park.

The defender has been a crucial member of Tony Mowbray's squad since arriving at the club in 2016 from Celtic, and with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, this is an important move for Rovers.

He has made 81 appearances for the club since making the move south of the border and scored an impressive 21 goals in that time as well.

It was his role in the side's promotion from League One last season that truly endeared himself to the Ewood Park faithful, with Mulgrew putting in impressive performances at both ends of the pitch.

He scored 14 goals during the campaign, including the one that sent Rovers up against Doncaster Rovers, earning him a place in the League One team of the season.
