As per The Star's Dom Howson on Twitter, Sheffield Wednesday have signed young defender Frederik Nielsen for their development squad.

The Owls have seen a recent up turn in form in terms of their senior side with them winning against Brentford and Nottingham Forest in recent days.

They'll be looking for more of that against Cardiff too, then, as they aim for a campaign that finally yields their promotion to the Premier League.

Whilst focus is mainly on the senior side, though, it's always good for fans to see their respective clubs planning for the future and clearly the Owls see something in Nielsen that Nottingham Forest didn't.

Indeed, as per Howson, the Danish starlet was with the Reds prior to this latest switch:

Wednesday, then, will be hoping for some promising progress from the centre-half with him able to play either on the right or left hand side.

A Denmark U19 player, too, he's certainly got something about him but it just remains to be seen if the Owls can do what the Reds didn't think they could and bring him through.

The Verdict

Moves like this are always a risk as there must be a reason Forest didn't think he was going to make it for them.

Then again, there must also be a reason that Wednesday have taken him on and with their development squad one of the best around in the Championship, there's no reason why he shouldn't come through.
