Leeds are still locked in negotiations with Marcelo Bielsa as they look to make the renowned Argentinian the new boss at Elland Road.

The former Athletic Bilbao manager emerged as the surprising leading candidate for the vacant Whites post last week and the two sides have been trying to work out a deal since.

And, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay offered the latest update on the situation today, revealing that talks are still ongoing and whilst they are progressing there is still no deal yet.

Potentially worrying news came out yesterday with Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon thought to be considering Bielsa as the man to replace Jorge Jesus. However, the fact he is still in talks with Leeds should ease fans concerns on that front.

Yet, as Hay also acknowledges, negotiations were always going to be tough for Bielsa who is very unpredictable in his behaviour.

That was evident when he walked out on Lazio after just two days whilst he has resigned from several positions in the past and clashed with senior figures at football clubs.

The Verdict

Anyone who has followed Bielsa's career or read up on him will know he is an extremely unpredictable character so attracting him to the Championship was always going to be tough.

It's understandable that Leeds fans are worried because they are desperate for the club to land such an exciting manager.

However, the fact he is still in talks is a positive sign and as Hay says, the talks are progressing even if it's not at the speed fans want.
