Leeds United reporter Phil Hay has jumped straight into a Twitter rant at fellow broadcaster Ian Abrahams over the state of play in the Championship right now.

Abrahams, a Talksport journalist, had argued that Norwich and Leeds United being promoted would be bad for the Championship this season.

His opinion is that in order to get more English coaches into the Premier League, they'll need to earn promotion.

There's currently four in the top flight, Eddie Howe, Sean Dyche, Roy Hodgson and Neil Warnock and he argues that two foreign coaches being promoted, Bielsa and Farke, would be bad for the English game.

Hay is seeing first hand the work that Bielsa is doing at Leeds and he hasn't taken too kindly to 'Moose' Abrahams' comments.

He makes several points as to exactly why he feels that the situation is not bad for the English game.

He points to Bielsa generating coverage of the Championship across Europe and South America with his presence at Leeds, raising the profile of the division hugely. He also notes that Bielsa has given four academy graduates their debuts this season for Leeds, promoting the English game by giving our youth a chance in the senior squad.

He draws attention to the fact Leeds appointed their first foreign coach in 2017 after years of failing under home grown coaches, and that Bielsa has been an inspiration for many English coaches during his career.

There's also a sly swipe at Darren Moore at West Brom, whom Hay notes has the most expensively assembled squad at West Brom, and who doesn't deserve top flight football if he can't get them promoted.

The Verdict

Ian Abrahams, consider yourself told. Phil Hay is usually a reserved journalist, you rarely see him losing his cool even when Leeds are playing badly or during the circus of the past few seasons, but he's clearly not happy here and rightly so.

Marcelo Bielsa has been incredible for English football and will continue to be if he gets them promoted. If an English coach doesn't catch him it's because they're not good enough. Simple.
