Frank Lampard's Derby County have been hugely impressive this season, and their good run of form has seen them occupy one of the play-off places heading into the festive period.

Many supporters would have hoped that Lampard would add some depth to his squad to give them the edge over their promotion rivals for the remainder of the season.

But journalist Alan Nixon has dampened those hopes, by claiming that there isn't a considerable amount of cash available for the Rams ahead of the January transfer window.

"Doesn’t look like much cash for deals in January. Lampard sounds relaxed about it. Will need loans extended though."

There have already been calls from Liverpool supporters for Harry Wilson to return to the club, but many Derby fans will be hoping that the young Welshman will remain with Lampard's side to help aid their promotion bid.

But the club's supporters will be confident that the current crop of players can put up a more than worthy challenge for promotion back to the Premier League after a lengthy spell away from the top flight.

The Rams are back in league action when they host local rivals, Nottingham Forest at Pride Park next Monday, in what will be one of their toughest tests of the season so far.

The Verdict:

It's frustrating news for Derby supporters.

They would have hoped that Lampard would be able to add to his current squad, so that they have the best chance possible of strengthening their grip on a play-off place.

But Nixon's latest comments suggest that it could be a nervy wait to see if the loanees at the club, will have their loans extended in January, to put to bed any speculation that they might return to their parent clubs.
