Barnsley are still without a manager having seen Paul Heckingbottom depart to join Yorkshire rivals Leeds United so soon after he signed an extended deal at Oakwell.

The new owners in charge at the club are certainly taking their time to make sure they get the right man after being forced into a surprise change of manager mid-season, with the club still in real danger of relegation to League One.

The Tykes are in the Championship bottom three, but only one point adrift of safety and journalist Alan Nixon has given the club's fans an update on the profile of manager being examined for the top job on Twitter.

Nixon has made it clear that it is a man with a coaching background that the powers that be at Barnsley are looking for and bigger name managers have been shunned.

The Verdict

It has been a tough situation for the new owners at Oakwell to adjust to. They were not expecting to be looking for a new manager so soon so they have had to take some time to decide what they are searching for.

Someone similar to Heckingbottom looks to be the priority and observers who are tired of managers getting jobs based on their name and reputation will be pleased by this latest update.
