Trabzonspor have completed the permanent signing of Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban, Turkish outlet Sabah have reported.

Ekuban has spent this season on loan in Turkey with Trabzonspor, scoring eight goals in 36 appearances in all competitions, and it now appears that the Ghanaian international has made his move permanent.

Sabah claim that Trabzonspor paid the €1million fee to Leeds to make the deal permanent, with Ekuban signing of a three year deal said to be worth €750,000 per season to the striker.

Ekuban never really managed to live up to his full potential at Elland Road, scoring just two goals in 21 appearances in all competitions for Leeds after joining from Italian side Chievo Verona in 2017.

Despite that, his form in Turkey this season earned him his first international caps for Ghana, with the striking scoring in both of his international appearances to date so far, netting the winner in Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya, and also finding the net in a 3-1 friendly win over Mauritania.

The verdict

This feels like a good move for all parties.

Ekuban appears to have settled better in Turkey than he did in Yorkshire, and Trabzonspor have enjoyed the benefits of that so far.

With Leeds set to push for promotion again next season, it seems unlikely that Ekuban would get many chances in their current side, so it makes sense for him to move to a club where his starting position is more secure.
