Reports suggest Bristol City man edging closer to Ashton Gate exit

Kaiserslautern are the latest side to show an interest in Bristol City striker Gustav Engvall, according to reports in the Swedish media.

The 21-year-old joined the Robins in 2016 from IFK Goteborg, but has failed to establish himself as a regular member of Lee Johnson’s side, appearing just eight times and being shipped out on loan twice to his native Sweden.

With Johnson having already brought Lois Diony in the month, it appears Engvall has slipped further down the pecking order, and Kaiserslautern are keen to swoop, and the player could be keen to head to Germany’s second tier in order to secure regular first team action.

Engvall has no shortage of suitors, with The Bristol Post reporting that Danes Brondby and Greek side Panathinaikos are also keeping tabs on the player this month.

The Verdict

Engvall arrived in Bristol as a promising youngster, but his style of play just hasn’t suited the football Johnson wants to play at Ashton Gate.

Engvall remains a top prospect, but it is time he moved on from the Championship to discover his potential in another league and another country.

The Bundesliga 2 is a top league with a fanbase in line with Championship crowds, and if regular football can be secured with Kaiserslautern, this would prove to be the perfect move for the player.
