Swansea City are close to the signing of striker Thomas Henry from Belgian side OH Leuven, a report from TopMercato has claimed.

Henry joined Leuven back in 2019, and has since gone onto score 42 goals in 75 appearances in all competitions for the club, including 21 league goals in the current campaign.

Recent reports have claimed that the Welsh club are keen on a deal for the 26-year-old, and it now seems as though the Swans are making progress in their pursuit of the striker.

According to this latest update, Henry is now set to leave Leuven this summer, and it seems as though Swansea could be his next destination.

It is thought that the striker is close to agreeing a deal to move to the Liberty Stadium, while the two clubs are said to be continuing discussions over a move.

As things stand, there are two years remaining on Henry's contract with Leuven, meaning they are in a strong position to negotiate a fee for the striker.

Indeed, responding to questions surrounding the deal, The Sun's Alan Nixon has now suggested that a move will still depend on the price, going on to indicate that Leuven are dropping their demands after looking to sell the 26-year-old over the course of the past campaign.

The Verdict

This will be big boost for Swansea City if they are able to get this one over the line.

With the departure of Andre Ayew this summer now having been confirmed, it is clear that the Swans are in need of some extra attacking firepower ahead of the new season.

Henry's impressive goalscoring record does suggest that he would be a decent candidate to fill that void at The Liberty Stadium, so it is promising to see they are closing in on this deal, especially so early in the transfer window.

It will also be interesting to see just what sort of price it might take for Swansea to complete the signing of Henry, which will be an indication of their intent after missing out on promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs last month.
