Xherdan Shaqiri’s move from Stoke City to Liverpool could trigger a number of transfers, including Stoke’s attempts to bring Matt Ritchie on board from Newcastle United.

According to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (13/07, 16:26), Stoke could now up their offer to bring Ritchie to the bet365 Stadium, with talks still ongoing between themselves and Newcastle at this stage.

Newcastle are holding out for £15m for Ritchie, whilst Stoke were prepared to pay £11.5m.

Sky’s report suggests that Stoke could now increase their offer to bring Ritchie on board, having received a reported £13.5m from the sale of Shaqiri to Liverpool.

Ritchie was part of Newcastle’s playing squad during their promotion-winning campaign in 2016/17, with the 28-year-old influential for Rafa Benitez’s side.

Should Stoke secure the service of Ritchie on the back of Shaqiri’s sale, it is expected to have a domino effect in the Premier League transfer market.

Sky expect Newcastle to make a move for Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend, which in turn, would see Palace make a move to sign Michail Antonio from West Ham United.

The Verdict

Shaqiri moving on could be brilliant for Stoke, particularly if they can get Ritchie on board.

Ritchie is a superb winger, who has cut it in the Championship before.

The Newcastle ace would bring so much to Gary Rowett’s squad ahead of next season.

As the transfer window ticks on, business looks set to become hectic.
