Leeds United goalkeeper Will Huffer may have represented the club for the final time after suffering a serious wrist injury, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

A member of Leeds' academy, Huffer has made a single appearance for the Whites senior side, which came in a 2-0 Championship win over Bristol City back in November 2018.

He has however been a more regular feature for Leeds at youth level in recent times, although it seems that may not be the case for much longer.

According to the latest reports, Huffer has suffered what looks to be a long-term injury to his wrist, meaning he is apparently facing several months on the sidelines.

That is something that could leave the 21-year-old's future up in the air, given the deal he signed with Leeds last summer is only set to run for 12 months, meaning he will once again be out of contract come the end of this season.

As a result, with Huffer not expected to force his way into the senior side when he does return to full fitness, it appears as though the goalkeeper's time at Elland Road could be coming to a conclusion.

Other than that solitary appearance for Leeds, Huffer's only experience in first-team football came during a loan spell with Barnet last season, when he made five appearances in all competitions for the National League club.

The Verdict

You do have to feel for Huffer somewhat here.

The chance to play for Leeds, particularly at a point when they are pushing for promotion back to the Premier League, is one that would surely be an appealing one for any young player such as Huffer.

As a result, the fact that it now looks as though that chance has gone will undoubtedly be disappointing for the 'keeper.

However, when you look at the options Leeds have ahead of him in their goalkeeping ranks, it could be argued that game time would have been limited for Huffer anyway, meaning a move somewhere else, where he could actually get more regular football, may not be an altogether bad thing for him.
