Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla's days at the Yorkshire club could be numbered, according to Leeds Live.

The 33-year-old is currently serving an eight-match ban after he was found guilty of using racially abusive language by the FA.

Even beyond that charge and subsequent ban, Casilla has not been at his best for the Whites – making a number of key errors in games and looking shaky behind one of the best defensive lines in the Championship.

In the Spaniard's absence, 20-year-old Illan Meslier has stepped up and impressed at first-team level for Leeds, hinting that he could be a long-term option for them between the sticks.

The Frenchman's strong performances leave question marks over Casilla's future at Elland Road, particularly as he is understood to be one of the highest earners in the Whites squad.

The shot-stopper still has three years left on the deal that he signed after joining Leeds from Real Madrid last January but Leeds Live have suggested that he could leave the club sooner than that.

On the subject of his future, the report from Leeds Live notes: "Few would be surprised if he wanted to end his career in Spain."

The Verdict

Given the mistakes that the Spaniard has made this season and the impressive way Meslier has taken to life in the Leeds first team, Casilla's impending exit would make a lot of sense.

Leeds look on track to secure a return to the Premier League after 16 years this season and you feel the Whites could look to sign a back-up with Premier League experience.

It will be interesting to see if the 33-year-old bids goodbye to Elland Road this summer.
