Aston Villa and Leeds United will both harbour aspirations of winning promotion to the Premier League this season.

Both Dean Smith and Marcelo Bielsa have squads at their disposal which are more than capable of putting together a run of form good enough to win promotion, and both will be confident of attaining at least a top six spot come May 2019.

However, it's not just squads which make the difference in the Championship, with the fans playing a big part in a lot of games, especially when it comes to the crunch.

And it appears Villa and Leeds are streaking ahead of their rivals in these stakes, with a report from the Birmingham Mail revealing that both clubs are top of the pops in terms of their attendance stats.

Leeds are ahead of Villa in the average attendance stakes by less than 40 fans, while in terms of the biggest attendance of the season, Villa lead the pack, pulling in over 41,000 to Villa Park.

The former Premier League pair also lead the way in terms of total fans through the games, with Leeds just pipping Villa by some 10,000 supporters.

It once again just highlights the size of both clubs in the second tier, and gives further weight to any arguments that people have about the duo being Premier League worthy clubs.

Leeds and Villa fans, what do you think of this? Any surprise? Let us know in the comments!
