West Bromwich Albion striker Jay Rodriguez could leave the club this summer, due to a £5million release clause in his contract, according to a report by The Telegraph.

The 22-year-old was one of the standout players for West Brom in the Championship last season and scored 22 goals as the Baggies just missed out on promotion.

The Express & Star reported yesterday that Rodriguez has attracted interest from a host of clubs, including Burnley and Bournemouth, with this latest report from The Telegraph stating that Leicester are also keen on signing him.

After West Brom were relegated from the Premier League last year, Rodriguez was persuaded to remain at the club for another season, but the Baggies added a £5million release clause into his contract, which now could be triggered.

West Brom finished fourth in the Championship table last season, despite sacking head coach Darren Moore in March, but eventually missed out on promotion, losing to Aston Villa on penalties in the play-off semi-finals.

The Verdict:

Rodriguez was excellent for West Brom in the Championship last season and it would be a big blow for Albion to lose him, especially with Dwight Gayle unlikely to return following the end of his loan spell.

If the striker wanted to leave the club after their relegation last year, he could still want to leave now and all of the Premier League clubs he is linked with could easily trigger his release clause.

It looks like the decision to sack more Moore last season could have not only costed West Brom promotion, but one of their key players too.
