The Chronicle have revealed that the winners of the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship title will earn a prize fund of £7.1 million.
The race for the title is hotting up and it looks like it will be a two horse race as we enter the final few games of the season.
Brighton and Hove Albion currently top the pile after beating Birmingham City on Tuesday night; they sit in first place with 83 points.
However, Newcastle United (81 points) can reclaim their place at the summit of the division if they grab a win against lowly Burton Albion at St James’ Park tonight.
The prize fund for the winners has been revealed to be £7.1 million which is an added incentive for the top two going into the final games of the season.
This is in addition to any “solidarity payments” and broadcasting payments that have been made to both teams over the course of the season.
