According to Sky Sports, Nottingham Forest could welcome David Vaughan back from injury this evening when they face Sunderland in the Sky Bet Championship.
Vaughan featured regularly for Forest during the early stage of the season, making an appearance in the opening four Championship fixtures, as Forest picked up three victories.
However, the 34-year-old has not featured in Forest’s last two Championship fixtures with a groin problem, but has made significant progress recently and is in contention for the trip to the Stadium of Light.
Mark Warburton’s side have suffered back-to-back defeats against Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday in their last two outings, slipping out of the play-off zone into 12th.
Forest will be looking to build on the nine points they have so far this season when they face Sunderland this evening, with Warburton’s side aiming to pile the pressure on Simon Grayson at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland are without a victory in their last three Championship fixtures, losing consecutive games against Leeds, Barnsley and Sheffield United.
Grayson also has a selection dilemma on his hands, with Aiden McGeady, Lamine Kone and Lee Cattermole all facing late fitness tests ahead of the clash at the Stadium of Light.
The Verdict
Vaughan’s return will be a huge boost for Nottingham Forest, with the experienced Welshman already having a positive impact at the City Ground this season.
Forest’s performance has slipped since Vaughan’s injury, but Warburton will be confident his side can return to winning ways against Sunderland – who themselves are struggling.
Vaughan is unlikely to be the difference between Sunderland and Forest, but he will offer Warburton’s side some experience in the area of the field, where the game could be won or lost.
