Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood cannot feature for the Owls in the Championship until January, according to Yorkshire Live.

The experienced shot-stopper was an outcast under Garry Monk but following his exit and the arrival of new manager Tony Pulis, it seems as if he may get another chance for the Hillsborough club.

It appears, however, as if Westwood may not be able to feature until January.

Yorkshire Live has reported that the 36-year-old is not registered in the Owls 25-man squad for the Championship, which means he won't be available for them in the league until at least the turn of the year.

That means that Pulis will likely use either Joe Wildsmith or Cameron Dawson as his starting goalkeeper for the first six weeks of his tenure, though Westwood could return in January and may look to use the next month and a half to get back to full fitness and sharpness.

The Republic of Ireland international has been a fantastic servant for the Yorkshire club, making nearly 200 appearances over the past six years.

Did these 17 Sheffield Wednesday players ever actually score a league goal for the club?

The Verdict

How Pulis approaches the Westwood situation is going to be very interesting.

The new Wednesday boss won't have to make a decision on that issue until at least January it seems, with the 36-year-old not available until then due to action taken by the previous manager.

We don't know the full details of the issue that saw him become an outcast under Monk but he will surely want to prove himself to the new boss.
