Report reveals Karlan Grant alternatives West Brom have lined up in the EFL

West Brom could lean towards Watford striker Andre Gray if they fail in their bid to sign Huddersfield’s Karlan Grant, according to The Athletic.

With Charlie Austin expected to move to Derby County, the Baggies remain keen on signing another striker before next Friday’s domestic deadline.

The Athletic believe that Slaven Bilic’s top target remains Grant, but could experiment towards either Troy Deeney or Gray, who’re both desperate continue playing in the Premier League, if they don’t capture the Terriers forward.

Can you name these 10 ex-Derby County midfielders?

Which former Derby County midfielder is this?

Gray is yet to feature for the Hornets in any competition this season and despite struggling for goals in recent topflight seasons – netting just 23 goals across four campaigns – he wants to continue plying his trade at the highest level.

The former Burnley frontman last scored Watford’s victory over Norwich back in November and his future at Vicarage Road is looking bleak.

The Verdict

Either Deeney or Gray would represent good pieces of business for West Brom. Deeney has a far better goal record in the Premier League, but turns 33 at the end of next season, whereas Gray isn’t yet 30 and has age on his side.

With Gray not playing a single minute since Watford’s relegation to the Championship last season, he looks likely to have played his final game for the Vicarage Road outfit.

And therefore a move away looks highly likely ahead of next Friday’s deadline, and if the Baggies come up short in their Grant bid, Gray could become their priority.
