Derby County are ready to listen to offers for Leeds United target Matej Vydra, but are looking to make a significant profit on the £8m they paid to sign the forward.

A report from the Yorkshire Evening Post over the weekend revealed that Leeds were exploring the option of signing Vydra, as an alternative to Abel Hernandez, who they remain in talks with.

That report suggested that Derby were searching for £10m for Vydra’s signature, with the Mirror (12/06, 20:16), revealing that the Rams are looking to make a significant profit on the £8m they paid to take him to Pride Park.

Derby signed Vydra from Watford in the summer of 2016, with the 26-year-old going on to make 73 Championship appearances for the Rams.

Vydra has scored 26 Championship goals during that time, with 21 of those coming last season, as the forward spearheaded Derby’s push for promotion to the Premier League.

However, failure to earn a Premier League return has left Derby facing the prospect of losing Vydra, as they look to slash their wage bill ahead of the new season.

The Mirror claim that Vydra is amongst the club’s top earners on £30k-a-week.

The Verdict

Leeds see Vydra as an alternative to Hernandez, and this report reveals the eye-watering figures that would be behind a deal.

Having to pay north of £8m in a transfer-fee hasn’t been done at Elland Road in a while, whilst the wage demands of Vydra could also stretch Leeds.

However, Derby find themselves in a good position with Vydra, particularly after his goalscoring form last season.

Any deal involving the forward isn’t going to be done on the cheap.
