Andy Yiadom will not have recovered from injury in time to return for Barnsley this weekend when they face Preston North End, reports the Yorkshire Post.

The Barnsley defender is struggling with an injury, but Paul Heckingbottom is expecting to receive an update on Yiadom’s issue next week, with a view to him starting his recovery process.

It is that particular injury that prevented Yiadom from leaving Oakwell for the Premier League over the summer, with the 25-year-old failing a medical at Huddersfield Town, who pulled out of a deal to sign him.

Swansea City also made a late attempt to take Yiadom out of South Yorkshire, but their attempt came too late in the transfer window, and the right-back is now committed to Barnsley until at least January.

Heckingbottom is confident that Yiadom will put the disappointment of not securing a Premier League move behind him, and focus on helping Barnsley in the Championship.

Despite Yiadom’s absence for Barnsley’s clash with Preston there was positive news, with Gary Gardner and Oli McBurnie in contention, following their deadline-day moves to Oakwell.

Heckingbottom’s side are looking to build on the six-points they have picked up from their opening five fixtures, when they visit Deepdale for the clash with Preston.

The Verdict

Whilst Yiadom will be disappointed not to get his move to the Premier League over the summer, he seems focused on settling back down at Barnsley and helping Heckingbottom’s side in the Championship.

Although the defender will not be available for the coming weeks, his return to action will be crucial for Heckingbottom’s side and will give them a huge lift.

The Tykes will be looking to build on their impressive victory over Sunderland prior to the international break, with Heckingbottom’s side first objective this season to gain enough points to ensure survival.
