Derby County captain Wayne Rooney attends coaches' meetings and video analysis sessions, has been allowed his say on tactics, and has coached young players through games on the pitch, according to a report from The Athletic.

The 34-year-old, who is England and Manchester United's record goalscorer, joined the Rams at the start of January in a somewhat controversial deal.

His impact at Pride Park has been clear to see. Rooney has made 15 appearances for the East Midlands club so far and helped Phillip Cocu's side win the second-most points in the  Championship since his arrival.

The Englishman joined the club as a player-coach and a recent report from The Athletic has revealed the responsibilities that he has been given since arriving at the Championship club.

It is understood that Rooney has been allowed his say on tactics, including highlighting an issue over defending throw-ins that was quickly solved.

The report also reveals he has been present at both coaches' meetings and video analysis sessions, as well as being tasked with coaching teenager Louie Sibley on the pitch during an FA Cup tie against Crystal Palace.

The 34-year-old's contributions had helped the Rams move to within five points of the play-offs before the delay to the Championship season.
