Crystal Palace are nowhere near Ipswich Town's valuation of midfielder Flynn Downes, in a potential blow to their hopes of signing him in the summer window, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

Downes was arguably Ipswich's best player last season - though he perhaps didn't have much competition for that accolade - and appears to have attracted interest from the Premier League.

Indeed, the report reveals that Palace value the midfielder at around £2 million but, perhaps unsurprisingly, the Tractor Boys want a fair bit more than that for him to leave the club.

Ultimately, he is their player and has considerable talent so, naturally, they won't want to see him for buttons.

At the same time, though, the pull of a Premier League side is obviously a big one so this is one to monitor.

The Verdict

Fees are going to be interesting this summer because clubs are going to be penny-pinching where they can.

Not every side will be able to hold out for big bucks, either, but it appears as though Ipswich feel they can get more for the midfielder and more power to them.

Palace will obviously be able to afford a little bit more than this, to put it frankly, and it remains to be seen if they are willing to in the coming weeks.
