Sheffield Wednesday face an anxious wait over the extent of Jack Hunt’s injury, with the defender set to see a specialist, reports the Sheffield Star.

Hunt has been reportedly struggling with a knee injury since the opening day of the Sky Bet Championship season, with the defender now set to see a specialist during the international break.

The 26-year-old has featured in all 11 of Sheffield Wednesday’s fixtures in the Championship this season, but was forced from the field after just 39 minutes of Sunday’s clash with Leeds United.

Liam Palmer replaced Hunt, who was not missed, as Wednesday cruised to a 3-0 victory over their Yorkshire rivals, thanks to a goalscoring brace from Gary Hooper and a sweet strike from Kieran Lee.

That victory eased some of the mounting pressure on Carlos Carvalhal, who entered Sunday’s contest with huge doubts surrounding his position at Hillsborough, after back-to-back defeats against Sheffield United and Birmingham City.

Wednesday now head into the international break 12th in the Championship table, having picked up 16 points from their opening 11 fixtures of the season.

Carvalhal’s side are now just four points behind the top-six, and return to Championship action against Bolton Wanderers in mid-October.

The Verdict

Hunt’s injury is frustrating for Wednesday, who will be hoping to learn that the defender’s knee problem is not anything serious in the coming weeks.

The 26-year-old is among the best in the Championship in his position, and should he face an extended period out of action, Wednesday could suffer.

However, Palmer did an excellent job replacing him on Sunday against Leeds, and Carvalhal will be confident that he has what it takes to step in again after the international break.
