Aston Villa could be helpless in their attempts to keep Jack Grealish and James Chester this summer.

According to a report in the Express, Steve Bruce could be about to watch his squad be picked apart at Villa Park, with interest expected in Grealish and Chester.

Failure to win promotion back to the Premier League last season has landed Villa in financial trouble, with the Sky Bet Championship outfit on the verge of administration.

Last season’s loan stars including Robert Snodgrass, Sam Johnstone and Lewis Grabban are unlikely to return, whilst John Terry, who captained Bruce’s side to the play-off final, has also departed.

Villa could also be helpless in trying to keep hold of Grealish and Chester, with that duo likely to attract interest this summer.

Grealish has been linked with a move to Tottenham after a fine year saw the 22-year-old grab three goals and six assists, with his role in helping Villa to the play-off final particularly important.

Like Grealish, Chester was also influential last season, featuring in every Championship fixture, alongside three appearances in the play-offs.

It is expected that Premier League clubs will be willing to pay £8m for Chester’s service this summer.

The Verdict

Grealish and Chester are Villa’s two prized assets, and if sales are needed this summer, you’d imagine that duo will be amongst the first out of the door.

Both players enhanced their reputation last season with solid campaigns and they will not be short of options this summer.

For Villa, it is vital that they recoup as much money as possible if either of the duo leave.
