Jordan Rhodes’ move to Norwich City is in doubt, with talks between the Canaries and Sheffield Wednesday breaking down.

A report in the Sheffield Star has revealed that a move for Rhodes has fallen through, with talks between Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday breaking down as they discuss a financial package.

It remains to be seen if a move can be resurrected for the striker, who has endured a difficult 18 months at Hillsborough with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 28-year-old has made 55 appearances for the Owls in that time, returning just 10 goals across all competitions.

Seven of those goals came last season, as Wednesday struggled to a mid-table finish under Jos Luhukay.

With the Owls looking to move Rhodes on, they wanted Norwich to pay a large chunk of Rhodes’ wages, should he complete a loan move to Carrow Road.

Norwich are desperately looking to bolster their attacking options this summer, having sold James Maddison and Josh Murphy in high-profile deals.

Despite Rhodes’ failings during his time in South Yorkshire with Sheffield Wednesday, he was previously one of the most prolific goalscorers outside the top-flight.

Spells with Huddersfield Town, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough were hugely successful, with the striker returning 162 goals during his time with that trio.

The Verdict

Rhodes has really struggled at Hillsborough, with a move probably best for both parties this summer.

However, talks breaking down is not good news for the striker, Sheffield Wednesday or Norwich .

Rhodes will be hoping that in the coming weeks, Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday can agree on a deal to move him on.

A fresh start is needed for the 28-year-old.
