Paddy McNair is understood to be keen on a return to the Premier League this summer.

The Sunderland ace is attracting top-flight interest already this summer, with Brighton and Hove Albion working hard to secure the midfielder’s signature this summer.

Brighton have already seen bids rejected, but according to the Chronicle Live, are set to return with a third bid of £5m for the Northern Irish international.

So far, Sunderland have stood firm over the 23-year-old, however, the same Chronicle Live report has hinted that McNair is keen to return to the Premier League this summer, despite Sunderland’s eagerness to retain the midfielder’s service.

McNair has a contract with Sunderland until 2020, but the Black Cats have suffered back-to-back relegations and are preparing for life in League One next season.

The versatile midfielder has made just 28 appearances for Sunderland since arriving from Manchester United.

The 23-year-old has scored seven goals for the Black Cats, five of which came last season in the Championship.

McNair was a shining light for Sunderland last year, despite their relegation, scoring four goals in his final five appearances of the season.

The Verdict

If McNair wants to leave Sunderland, the club are going to have little choice but to move him on this summer.

If that situation plays out, all Sunderland can do is hold out for the best fee they can.

So far, Sunderland haven’t caved in and are holding out for more money for McNair.

The midfielder is a good player and should be commanding a fee north of £5m.
