Leeds United pursuit of Matej Vydra is still ongoing, with the Whites looking to thrash out a deal with Derby County for the prolific forward.

A report in the Derby Telegraph has delivered a brief update on Leeds’ pursuit of Vydra, with a number of issues still to be resolved at this stage.

The update claims that Vydra’s transfer fee remains a stumbling block, with Derby valuing the forward at £11m, but Leeds not yet putting that sort of money on the table.

That sort of fee is the least Derby should be expecting to receive, according to the Derby Telegraph, although the report claims that there isn’t a queue of clubs lining up to sign the 26-year-old, which works against the Rams’ hopes of a bidding war starting.

Vydra was the Championship’s top goalscorer last season, with the Czech forward finding the back of the net on 21 occasions as he led the Rams to sixth in the table.

However, Vydra’s goals weren’t enough to help Derby to success in the play-offs, with the Rams now preparing for another year of Championship football, this time under Frank Lampard, who has taken his first steps into management at Pride Park.

The Verdict

This is a mixed update for Leeds, who have been attempting to sign Vydra for some time now.

The £11m transfer fee is proving to be a stumbling block, however, it’s encouraging for Leeds that they don’t appear to face any competition in the race to bring Vydra on board.

Things could change in the coming weeks though, with Leeds really needing to press on if they are to bring Vydra on board.
