A report in the Birmingham Mail has provided an update on Aston Villa’s on-loan trio, Sam Johnstone, Josh Onomah and Robert Snodgrass, heading into the January transfer window.

Steve Bruce is hopeful a deal can be agreed between Villa and Manchester United over goalkeeper, Johnstone, whilst the report in the Birmingham Mail was also able to provide an update on Onomah, who’s immediate future at Villa Park is in doubt.

Recent reports have suggested that Tottenham Hotspur could recall the 20-year-old next month, but Onomah is expected to remain at Villa Park for the duration of the current season, as was originally planned between Villa and Spurs.

Snodgrass is another player currently on-loan at Villa Park, with the Birmingham Mail understanding that Villa have no plans to make the winger’s move permanent in January, but that could be an option they explore during the summer transfer window.

Bruce’s side are currently fifth in the Sky Bet Championship table, and heading into the festive period have lost on just two occasions in the league since mid-August, a sensational run that has put the Villans in serious promotion contention.

Villa have drawn back-to-back fixtures in the Championship, and will be looking to return to winning ways this Saturday, when they travel to the Pride Park Stadium to take on Derby County.

The Verdict

High on Villa’s agenda heading into January will be sorting Johnstone’s long-term future, which has been common knowledge for some time.

However, recent reports linking Onomah back to Tottenham will have worried supporters, so learning that the midfielder is set to stay for the season is a huge boost.

The update on Snodgrass is also promising, as the Scottish international’s permanent arrival will strengthen Villa whether they are in the Premier League or Championship.
