According to the Football League Paper, Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to exercise their option to make Diogo Jota’s move to Molineux permanent in the January transfer window.

Jota joined Wolves on-loan from Athletico Madrid during the summer transfer window, and the Sky Bet Championship outfit are now planning to make that move permanent in early 2018 for a reported £14m.

The eye-watering figure Wolves will pay to secure the Portugal under-21 international’s permanent signature will not exceed the £15m paid to sign Ruben Neves over the summer, but once again shows the spending power of the Molineux outfit.

Jota has been influential in Wolves’ start to the Championship season, helping lift Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to the top of the table after 12 fixtures.

The 20-year-old forward has scored seven goals and added one assist from his opening 12 appearances in old gold, proving to be one of the Championship’s brightest sparks during the season’s opening months.

Jota’s performance against Aston Villa on Saturday evening was superb, with the forward helping Nuno’s side return to the top of the Championship table with a 2-0 victory.

The youngster opened the scoring, before playing a crucial role in Leo Bonatini’s second goal with a driving run from midfield.

The Verdict

This is extremely exciting news for Wolves and their supporters, particularly after the impact Jota has had in the Championship so far this season.

The 20-year-old has been Wolves’ biggest goalscoring threat so far this season, and his early season form probably makes him the hottest property outside the Premier League at this current time.

It is hard to say that Wolves’ current form rests solely on Jota’s shoulders, but he has simply been the driving force behind everything the club have done well this season.

He could be the difference in the race for promotion.
